Joshua Arthur Brandon was a London based architect, in business with his brother, John Raphael, who designed the original Christ Church, Portswood in 1846-7. He died, aged 25, before completion of the church.
In the 1841 census, Joshua Brandon (b.1822, Middlesex) was living in Brompton Crescent, Kensington with his parents Joshua (b.1786) ,who was a merchant, and Mary (b.1793). Also present were sisters, Josephine (b.1820) and Eglatine (b.1827) and brother Alexander (b.1826). They had one female servant.

Although there have been many statements made that he was buried in Highfield Churchyard, I could not find any evidence for this. The churchyard was not opened until 1850, 3 years after his death. Apart from the memorial in the church, there is no evidence of a grave and he was not included in the parish burial registers.
