In 1891, Fred. J. Eldridge (b.1887, South Stoneham) lived on Burgess Street with his parents; Walter (b.1850, Downton, Wiltshire) and Eliza (b.1852, North Stoneham). His father was a railway servant. Elder brothers; Walter J. (b.1876, St.Denys) and Enos G. (b.1878, South Stoneham), were labourers. He had 3 sisters; Emily E. (b.1882), Kate E. (b.1883) and Ada (b.1889).

In 1901, Fred Eldridge (b.1887, Swaythling) still lived in Burgess Street, South Stoneham with his family. He was described as a Milk Boy ag. cattle. His father Walter (b.1845, Wiltshire) was a railway groom/stableman. His mother was Eliza was also present along with 4 sisters ; Kate (b.1883, a worker at home), Ada (b. 1889, described as imbecile), Bessie (b.1892) and Nellie (b.1896). All the children were born in Swaythling.

From the records of soldiers who died in WW1, Frederick John Eldridge died on 29 August 1918. He was a Driver (number 31809) with the 7th Brigade of the Royal Horse and Field Artillery.
His Medal Roll card confirmed his award of the Victory Medal, British medal and 1914 Star (qualifying date 15/8/1914).
The Commonwealth Graves Commission recorded him buried in TERLINCTHUN BRITISH CEMETERY, WIMILLE, Pas de Calais, France. Plot II. Row F. Grave 12.
