His name is recorded on the Bassett War Memorial and on the Highfield School Roll of Honour. His name was not recorded by the headmaster as one of those lost.

In 1891, Harolds family were living at Brick Yard, North Stoneham. His father, John (b.1859, Timsbury, Hampshire) was a gardener/domestic servant. His mother was Laura. (b.1859, Bursledon, Hampshire). He had 3 siblings; Laura. (b.1884, North Stoneham), John (b.1885, North Stoneham) Dorothy (b.1887, North Stoneham) and Ruth (b.1891, North Stoneham).

In 1901, the family were living at Red Hill, Bassett, North Stoneham. His father was still a gardener. Elder brother Jack (John) was a groom. Also present were mother Laura and sisters Ruth, Mabel (b.1894, Bassett), Grace (1896, Bassett) and Sybil (b.1899, Bassett).

At the time of his death, Harold was an Acting Corporal (service numbers 241232 and 2868) with the 2/5th Hampshire Regiment, Territorial Force Battalion. He received the Victory and British Medals. His address was recorded as Bassett and he is recorded as Lance Corporal on the Bassett Memorial.
Commonwealth War Graves Commission records show that he was killed in action in Egypt on 10th April 1918 during the Battle of Berukin in the Mesopotamian campaign and is remembered at the JERUSALEM MEMORIAL, panel references 28 and 29.
His parents were John and Laura Hallett, of Yew Tree Cottage, Old Bursledon, Southampton.
