In the 1861 census, a Catherine Hewett (b. 1786, Nottinghamshire) was living in Upper Belmont Terrace, South Stoneham. She was a widow living with her daughter Annie (b. 1813, Doncaster) who was a 'fancy needle knitter?' and a visitor Susanna Hewitt (b.1817, Doncaster) who was a teacher of music.

(Fancy Needle Knitter may refer to a Frame Work Knitter, FWK for short, which was a particular type of stocking making used primarily in the East Midlands and would have been very unusual in Hampshire.)
