Highfield School

A history of Highfield CE Primary School has been produced. The editors have transcribed the original managers’ minutes from 1848 to 1862, when school log books became compulsory, and then the school log books from 1862 until 1989 when they ceased to be written. The early entries include the wording for the original advertisements for the school and the original school rules as well as details about the contract of employment the first head signed. Although they were unable to include everything, because there was just too much, they have included photographs of samples of each head’s entries as well as copies of the architect’s plans for the many stages of the development of the school. Whilst a version was produced 10 years ago it did not include the first 14 years or the pictures and they have increased the number of other entries included. It is now a 200 page A5 spiral bound book – “Diary of a School – Highfield 1849- 2009”, copies are available for £10 plus £1.50 p&p, all profits are being donated to Highfield School.
