Poppy - Lest We Forget

Highfield and Portswood have been badly affected by war; the loss of so many sons in WW1 and the devastation at home and abroad in WW2. Along with the rest of the country, we choose to remember this on Remembrance Sunday, but in 2010 we wanted to remember why we remember - who were the people we lost? What were the sacrifices made? What happened in our community and what should this mean to us now? Our community coming together in a renewed sense of respect for those generations who went through so much.

With information found from research, a Wall of Remembrance was created at Highfield Church, to allow those taking part to know something of all the individuals whose sacrifice we mourn.

Here are some of our projects .....

World War 1

Documenting the names of those lost, and researching the people, their lives and their service records

A Highfield History War Walk

A guide to some of the places in Highfield which hold stories of World War 2.

World War 2
