Edgar Silver was born to Stephen Winckworth Silver and Frances Susan Silver on 21 July 1829. His father was a merchant and they lived on Circus Road. He was baptised at Christ Church, Marylebone on 12 August 1829.

In the 1841 census, Edgar was living in Marylebone. Also present were merchant Stephen W Silver (b.1821), Maria Silver (b.1826), Hugh Adam Silver (b.1826), Walter Silver (b.1831), Septimus Silver (b.1836) and Mary Ann Silver (b.1801) of indenpendent means. There were 4 servants listed.

Edgar Silver, 4th son of Stephen Winckworth Silver matriculated at Oriel College on 2 December 1847, aged 18. He received his BA in 1852 and MA in 1855.

Marriage recorded for Edgar Silver to Isabella Diana Emma Davis in South Stoneham, Apr-Jun 1854, Vol 2c, page 90.

Edgar was ordained in 1853 and became curate at Shirley, Hampshire (1853-1855), followed by Bitterne (part of South Stoneham) from 1855-1860.
He was subsequently appointed as Perpetual Curate at Holy Trinity, Cowes, Isle of Wight (1860-1867) then as Rector of Medsted, Hampshire (1867-1880) before becoming Perpetual Curate of Christ Church, Portswood in 1880.

Edgar and Isabella had at least 7 children; Ida Marion (b.1856, Bitterne), Constance Emily (b.1858, South Stoneham), Edgar George (bap. 1860, Cowes, Isle of Wight), Agnes Margaret (bap.1861, Cowes), Ernest Wollaston (b.1862, Cowes), Godfrey Stephen (bap. 1865, Cowes) and Walter Barrington (bap.1866, Cowes).

In the 1881 census, Edgar was shown as Perpetual Curate of Christ Church, living in Highfield Vicarage. He was there with his wife, Isabella D.E. (b.1830, Holyhead, Anglesey) and unmarried daughter, Ida M. They had a visitor staying with them and five domestic servants.

Later that year their son Godfrey Stephen Silver died in Hertfordshire, where he had been boarding at school in that years census.

In 1891, Edgar Silver was described as Perpetual Curate of Highfield and Rural Dean of Southampton. Their home was described as The Parsonage. Living with him were his wife, Isabella, single daughter, Ida M and great-niece, Mary E.H. Silver (b.1874, Worcestershire). 5 domestic servants were listed.

In 1901 the census showed 71 year old Reverend Silver living at the vicarage in Highfield with his wife and two unmarried daughters; Ida and Agnes. Agnes was a 'Nurse General'. Granddaughter Frances D. (b 1900, southampton) was also with them. They had 5 domestic staff listed.

Reverend Silver left Highfield in 1903. During his time at Highfield church he saw the introduction of a Parish Council and the parish magazine.
